MidJourney AI Art Workshop: Learn to Transform Images with Advanced Editing Techniques for Artists

I’ll show you how to take your AI-generated art to the next level with personalized, hands-on editing techniques—perfect for artists ready to refine and sell their digital creations.

The Problems with Midjourney & All Other Generative Fill Apps On the Market

When it comes to creating artwork with MidJourney and other generative AI apps, the first and most glaring issue is resolution. While MidJourney has the ability to upscale images, the final product often falls short of what’s required for large-format printing, like those high-quality pieces you want on your wall. The upscaling features can only take you so far before the image begins to pixelate, leaving you with something that lacks the crispness and sharpness that a physical print demands. This makes it challenging for artists trying to sell prints, as potential buyers expect art that stands up to scrutiny at close range.

Another significant challenge is the nagging imperfections that generative AI often leaves behind. While MidJourney can get a lot of things right, it also has a tendency to miss details in an awkward way. It could nail the composition or the lighting, but completely botch a hand, facial feature, or background element in a way that's almost embarrassing to share. These imperfections, if left untouched, can distract from the overall impact of the artwork, making it unsuitable for professional use. The raw output from MidJourney, much like the raw format in photography, is just the starting point. Without proper editing, it’s simply not gallery-ready or polished enough for commercial use.

Then there’s the issue of uniformity. The art coming out of MidJourney and similar platforms often has that unmistakable “AI look.” No matter how creative your prompt might be, the underlying algorithms are the same for everyone, meaning you’re bound to get results that carry a similar aesthetic to those of other users. This creates a serious limitation if you’re aiming to produce unique, standout artwork. Over time, the repetition in visual styles makes it difficult for your work to break free from the "AI-art" mold. This is where customization becomes essential—changing elements, tweaking features, adding textures, and applying your personal touch to ensure your art stands apart from the crowd.

Beyond these key issues, there are additional limitations that generative AI apps can't overcome on their own. One problem is the inability to add assets or fine details that can enhance a portrait or scene. For example, you might want to add accessories to a portrait, like a unique hat or detailed jewelry, or perhaps include cars, animals, or specific objects in a scene to enhance the story your artwork tells. Without advanced editing, you’re stuck with whatever the AI outputs, missing out on the opportunity to make your images richer and more personalized.

Another common frustration with AI-generated art is the lack of control over color schemes. While MidJourney can deliver vibrant visuals, you don’t have the flexibility to easily tweak colors to fit a specific mood or palette, which can be critical for creating art that aligns with your vision. If the colors are off, or they don't suit the space you're designing for, your hands are tied unless you bring in advanced editing techniques.

Lastly, there’s the issue of lighting and contrast. AI tools are good at creating striking images, but they often miss the mark when it comes to nuanced lighting. Sometimes the highlights are too strong, or the shadows too flat, resulting in a loss of depth. In photography, we know how crucial it is to balance the light and shadow to create mood and dimension. The same goes for AI art—without fine-tuning, the image might fall flat where it could have been dynamic.

This is where I come in. With my workshops, I’ll teach you how to overcome these limitations using advanced photo editing techniques, helping you transform AI-generated images into polished, professional pieces of art ready for print or digital sale.

Important: Please Read FAQ

  • Minimum Requirement:
    An Aobe Photoshop subscription.

You will ideally have an Adobe Photoshop subscription or some other advanced photo editor, preferably with Generative Fill capabilities currently found in Photoshop.

Additionally but not required: An app to upscale Midjourney images (this can be done in later editions of Lightroom as well as in Photoshop). I use Topaz Gigapixel AI, which I highly recommend if you're serious about printing and selling your work.

I also use Luminar Neo and other third party plugins to perform creative actions when needed.

In a nutshell, you will not be able to apply most of my techniques without the help of a Photoshop subscription. I don't recommend you going out and purchasing anything that you don't have a basic understanding of before scheduling a workshop with me.

  • No. If you have a basic understanding of layers and many of Photoshop's photo editing tools, I'll be able to show you how to enhance your Midjourney images without taking much time away from the main task at hand. But I'll also suggest things that you can use in Photoshop, so don't worry about missing out. I want you to learn and use some of the same methods that I do to create my own work. But you should be somewhat familiar with most of the tools and what they're capable of doing. Essentially, I want your time to be focused on enhancing Midjourney art and not learning Photoshop from scratch. If you have questions about this, please get a hold of me and I will gladly answer any questions you have.

  • My workshops are completely non-changeable and non-refundable. If you have to reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances, I will try to accomdodate you the best I can. If I'm able to reschedule you, the workshop must be taken within 7 days of the original date or risk losing the workshop slot.

Once paid for, all of my workshops are non-refundable.

  • The short answer is no. Why? Because you're going to be frustrated at the results because you're not going to be able to get the same results that I am using advanced photo editing techniques. And if you're reading this now, the chances are you may have seen some of my artwork already. I'll state for the record now: none of these images are straight out of Midjourney. They've all been edited with at least the help of Photoshop and likely several other apps, depending on the piece.

    Advice:
If you're new to Midjourney and don't know how it works, check out any number of instruction videos on YouTube. Creating effective prompts is a big part of it but in my view, it's only half of the journey on a good day.

If you're not a photo editor or don't have basic understandings of Photoshop, start to learn it. I do teach Photoshop for fine art photography. But I'd highly recommend getting started on your own. Get a free Adobe trial and practice. See if it's something that you'll want to stick with before you spend a lot of your hard-earned money on a monthly subscription. And once you've achieved a basic understanding, I'll be here for you.
