About Your Hate Moves Me
Your Hate Moves Me is my satirical response to those who fear and reject technology, particularly artificial intelligence, in the world of art. It envisions a future where AI fulfills the apocalyptic fears of its critics—an AI takeover, the eradication of humanity—but with a knowing smirk. This piece is a fusion of science fiction, street photography, and a direct challenge to the outdated notion that AI has no place in artistic creation.
Photography, my primary artistic medium, was once ridiculed and dismissed by the art world. Early critics called it mechanical, devoid of soul, and a threat to traditional painters. That fear now seems absurd, yet today, I see history repeating itself as artificial intelligence faces the same resistance. AI, like the camera before it, is simply another tool—one that expands creative possibilities rather than diminishes them.
This piece is grounded in street photography but reimagined through AI. While I have often used Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) to obscure the identities of my subjects, AI allows me to push further, reshaping photographic elements into something conceptually deeper. The theme at the heart of this work is defiance—the defiance of progress, of artistic evolution, and of those who cling to outdated fears about technology.
I create work to provoke and challenge, particularly those in the art world who should know better. Artists have always embraced new tools, from the paintbrush to the camera, and AI is no different. The misconception that AI creates art autonomously ignores the truth—its potential is unlocked by the hands of the artist, just like any other medium.
Hate it, fear it, fight it if you must, but you’ve already lost the war if you’re battling against it.
