Three Shots From Mumbai

One of my favorite shots from 2019 [above image]. A few Mumbaikars may know where this is, situated on a small hill near the fort in Worli Koliwada. I had been ready to take pictures of this little girl who was following me and my workshop attendees around when she suddenly pulled off a one-handed cartwheel while brushing her teeth. Fortunately, I already had her framed up when she went freestyle.

I have a handful of Versova residents that I love to photograph, and this gentleman is one of them. He's been collecting recyclables from Versova Beach for many years and presumably before I encountered him when I first started exploring the beach. Along with the cleanup crews, it's people like this who have helped keep Mumbai beaches a little less corrupted.

The image was taken on my chunky Sigma 35mm ART lens paired with Sony A7iii.

I have a list of favorite things, which seems a little childish when I express it. But it's the sort of phenomenon that transpires after shooting in Mumbai for several years. This is my favorite tree in Mumbai. There are others like it in Aarey but this one is best-viewed off the road and from the tall grasses that usually make such shots impractical unless one has a machete handy. At just after sunrise, this patch of Aarey resembles Jurrasic Park. It's located just off Aarey Road and close to an unnamed road, which also happens to be my favorite road in Mumbai.
