“Desolation” and Mixing Photography with AI
"Desolation"
Venturing into the fine art realm has been a journey of discovery and adaptation for me. While I navigate this new landscape, setting aside the business aspect for the moment, I want to share a glimpse into my creative process. Many of you are familiar with my roots in street photography, which continues to inspire my work. Recently, I've expanded my toolkit by embracing Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) techniques, allowing me to craft Impressionist-inspired fine art prints. However, my artistic ambition goes beyond mere motion and blur; I strive for diversity in expression.
This quest for versatility led me to explore the potential of artificial intelligence in art. With the advent of Generative AI in tools like Photoshop, I've been able to merge real-life street captures with imaginative elements, crafting scenes that transcend traditional photography or AI-generated art boundaries. My subjects are real individuals, captured through my lens, sometimes altered to preserve anonymity but always integral to the narrative of each piece.
This fusion of street photography with AI might stir controversy among purists in both fields, but I view it as a necessary evolution of my craft. Lacking traditional artistic skills like painting or drawing, I rely on digital innovation to bring my visions to life. This approach might not sit well with some, but the integration of Generative AI into creative software is inevitable, echoing historical shifts like the advent of the printing press or the rise of the internet, which reshaped industries and societies.
As an artist in this digital age, I embrace these tools, not as a crutch, but as a means to expand the horizons of what art can be. This journey is about more than just adapting to new technologies; it's about redefining the essence of creativity itself.
