Free Juhu Beach ICM Photo Walk: June 9th, 5 PM
This coming Sunday, June 9th at 5 PM, I’ll be leading an ICM photo walk at Mumbai’s Juhu Beach.
All skill levels in photography are welcome.
Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) photography involves deliberately moving the camera during a long exposure to create abstract, painterly images. This technique blurs the scene, emphasizing motion and creating unique, dynamic compositions that capture the essence of a subject in a more artistic manner. During our photo walk, we'll explore various ICM methods, experimenting with different movements and exposure times to transform ordinary scenes into captivating works of art.
Duration: 5 pm to sunset
WHAT TO BRING:
Hat - Sunscreen - Sunglasses - Sandals (yes we make get our feet wet!)
DSLR or mirrorless camera + ND filters (or even a smartphone with built-in ND filter or attachment)
ND filter is a must! Ideally, a 6-stop or greater ND
I recommend shooting with focal lengths of 50mm or greater for the beach, primarily so that you can photograph water scenes without having to go into the water very far. I personally use an 85mm prime lens for this although something like a 70-200mm zoom would probably be ideal.
WHAT YOU’ll LEARN:
Camera settings to shoot ICM
Camera movements
Subject selection
HOW TO SIGN UP:
Leave your NAME in the COMMENTS below and what CAMERA GEAR you have. Also, please make sure you have an ND filter because, without it, you won’t be able to shoot ICM in the direct sunshine.
On Saturday, June 8th, I’ll update this page with the meeting location details & my WhatsApp number.
All questions will be answered here in comments. Feel free to ask & comment. I won’t be using social media to communicate for this event so save this page.
See you Sunday!

Post Workshop Images
I had a great time running this workshop this past Sunday. It may be the last one of the season because the monsoon rains have begun. Maybe I’ll run a workshop in the rain if there’s enough interest.
Here are three of my edited images from the photo walk.
