I Asked AI to Name Me the Top 10 Street Photography Assignments That Anyone Can Do
Over the past few years, I've been captivated by the possibilities of AI and its versatile applications. Among the various roles it has played in my life, one that stands out is as an unpaid consultant, where I've experienced the valuable insights AI can provide on numerous subjects. As a fervent enthusiast of street photography, I couldn't resist the temptation to explore how AI might perceive this dynamic and artful form of expression.
Fortune Smiles Upon the Ready Lens
I knew when I got this shot that the odds were similar to purchasing a winning mega-million-dollar lottery ticket. There were so many random factors involved that aligned with the camera, lens, and settings choices that I made beforehand, all of which made it possible to take the shot and allow the entire image to be processed. Not to mention, the chances that I was able to photograph one of my favorite subjects (laborers), candidly, without even knowing what was there and without looking.
Ice Porters Along Vasai Creek
I shot this sequence in 2017 on the north side of Vasai Creek near the Vasai Fort. It was just after sunrise and I saw a tempo loaded with ice near the makeshift dock.
Three Shots From Mumbai
Three shots from Mumbai that I quite like. All three were taken using the Sony A7iii paired with the Sigma 35mm ART lens. This combo isn’t the best for street photography due to the weight but the image quality is fantastic.

George Carlin Was a Master Comedian and My All-Time Favorite
George Carlin was a master comedian and my all-time favorite. I grew up listening to his records in the 1970s. The first time I remember my parents playing LPs and hearing George do little skits. One particular funny line, especially for a kid: "Anyone can have bad breath Marge, but you could knock a buzzard off a shit wagon."
It Makes Me Want To Go Out and Take Pictures
Sometimes, the only way I know that I'm on the right track with anything is when I go back and look at my work and it makes me want to go out and take pictures. I'm sure some of you may feel the same way about your own images taken at your favorite haunts.
2023 the Year That Fake Shit Became Real
I call this series, "Mirror People". I ripped the name off from a Love and Rockets track.
I can't speak for the video realm, but I can say without a doubt that if done correctly, there's almost no way to distinguish between real and AI-generated people for stills imagery. I predicted this would happen in a matter of months after I started using the technology in 2022, and I'm fairly confident it's already come to pass.
My Thoughts Behind the Piece, “Another Vision”
The ideas behind one of my articles here called Photography to the Rescue! How to Legally Copyright Your AI-Generated Art was still kicking about inside my head when I created this piece. Primarily, I wanted to create a generative art piece and then photograph it. And then continue editing it in order to own the copyright. That’s exactly what I did with Another Vision. It bears little resemblance to its original. The heads are completely different. The coloring and texturing as well have been modified.
The Aksa Collection Is Now Available As NFTs at Rarible
I’m pleased to announce that the Aksa Collection has made its debut as a series of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) on the renowned NFT marketplace, Rarible. This limited edition collection of 21 prints, originally captured at the picturesque Aksa Beach in Mumbai using the innovative Intentional Camera Movement (ICM) technique, is set to captivate the hearts of both NFT enthusiasts and fine art collectors alike. Each of the 10 NFTs in the collection represents a one-of-a-kind masterpiece, making them a highly sought-after acquisition in the digital art realm.
When Shooting Wide Open in Street Photography Is Just Plain Fucking Stupid
I’ve coined a term for stopping up to your maximum aperture on the lens and walking around in Aperture Priority mode on Auto ISO: Goofy Mode. It’s what everyone is bound to do when they purchase a fast prime lens (like a Sony 85mm 1.8.) and set out and about and put it through the paces.
How Many Iconic Photos Have You Taken?
When discussing the masters of street photography, it is accurate to say that their portfolios often consist of only a handful of iconic images, regardless of their lengthy experience in the field. Personally, I can relate to this, as I have about three images in my own modest collection that I truly admire and consider to be iconic within my own sphere. This particular photograph is one of them. I captured it on New Year's Day, 2020, on the active railroad tracks at the Dhakuria Railway Colony in Kolkata. While the presence of a passing train at that precise moment would have enhanced the image, I cannot expect everything to align perfectly unless I resort to Photoshopping.
Bingo Was His Name-O
Bingo Was His Name-O
In shadows deep, where darkness grips his soul,
Resides poor Bingo, plagued by writer's block.
His muse has fled, leaving an empty scroll,
Leaving his words to wither, die, and mock.
No Plate, No Problem!
Narrator: "Are you tired of those kitchen mishaps that ruin your sweetest moments? Well, fret no more, because we've got the solution you've been waiting for!"
The One-Eyed Ornithologist
The One-Eyed Ornithologist (Aviculus unoculus) inhabits the woodlands of North America, exhibiting a peculiar behavior of hosting nesting birds during their mating season. This solitary creature, notable for its grumpy disposition and affinity for vitamin supplements, adheres to a strict sleep schedule, retiring early in the evening and rising well before the break of dawn, aligning its habits with the avian species it shelters.
I Discovered That You Can Use Generative Fill to Remove Halos and Clean Up Edges in Photoshop!
About a couple of weeks ago I discovered that apart from all the wonderful things that Generative Fill can do it can also take care of halos and smoothen edges. I’d been working on a composite when I happened upon a common problem: rough edges and halos. Let’s jump right into this and deliver on the headline and I’ll talk about the implications and my thoughts about Generative Fill afterward. Now, I’ll show you how to do it.

New Prints: DJ in the Desert Series
Music is a big part of my life and I'm always surprised by how little it's a part of others' lives when I come across those odd meetings and gatherings where the music is inappropriately absent from the scene. I'd rather be complaining after such an event that "the music sucked" than have to endure time-space without rhythm and melody.
